The Power of Ultra Violet Light… by BioZone

Posted on

The BioZone AirCare and Mini PowerZone II air & surface sanitation systems harness the power of Ultra Violet Light and utilise the following processes to actively clean and purify the air killing all known bacteria, viruses, moulds, yeasts, and fungus, eliminating the odours which they produce in the process.

All without the need to use harmful or toxic chemicals.

How do the BioZone products work?

BioZone products work by circulating air throughout the area being cleaned. The air is drawn in through one end of the unit, it passes across the high power UV bulb before it is expelled at the other end of the machine.

The complete process incorporates five processes which all actively clean and sanitise the air. These processes are as follows:

  1. Ozone – the UV light reacts with the oxygen molecules in the air producing ozone. The highly reactive O3 molecules attack odour causing pollutants and breakdown bacteria cell membranes rendering them harmless.
  2. Photoplasma – the UV lamp creates highly energised excited atoms, molecules, radicals and free electrons which make up the photoplasma. When the machine is in operation, the photoplasma is distributed throughout the area reacting with biological molecules, breaking them into harmless compounds. The oxidising and sanitising power of photoplasma is 180 times more effective than UV light and 2000 times more effective than ozone. The ‘mobile’ nature of photoplasma increases its effectiveness as it can travel in the air to continue active purification of all areas, even those with limited access.
  3. Negative Ions – a by product of the UV reaction with air are negative ions (OH-). These negative ions attract positive contaminated air particles which they react with producing new, harmless compounds. The negative ions are particularly effective against airborne impurities and dust.
  4. Germicidal UV Light – as the air passes through the unit, direct exposure to the UV lamp kills all airborne bacteria and viruses preventing further distribution throughout the area.
  5. Photo-Catylitic Oxidation – the process creates hydroxyl free-radicals. These free-radicals oxidise bacteria, pollutants and break down volatile organic compounds (VOC’s) and chemical pollutants (for example; nicotine, ammonia, formaldehyde etc.).

The combination of these five, very effective germicidal, anti-microbial, sanitising processes make the BioZone AirCare and Mini PowerZone II systems incredibly effective in the fight against the spread of bacteria and viruses.

What are the benefits of the BioZone System?

The BioZone products add an additional layer of protection for businesses and institutions, giving both staff members and customers increased peace or mind.

  • The purifying photoplasma generated by the units reaches the places no other cleaning technology can!
  • The system eliminates bacteria, fungus, and viruses – in both the air and on surfaces.
  • It operates without the use of any chemicals, therefore leaves no chemical residues
  • No COSHH implications
  • Fast acting and effective on the most serious odours
  • Costs the same to run as a light bulb!
  • The room not only smells fresh and clean, it really is!

What is the difference between the AirCare and the Mini PowerZone II?

The AirCare

UV Sanitation Systems - BioZone AirCare

The AirCare units are less powerful than the Mini PowerZone II. They are designed to be installed in public areas where they will continually circulate the air within that area, processing it with the five germicidal elements listed above. This ensures complete protection 24/7.

Applications for the AirCare system include:

  • Public washrooms & cloakrooms
  • Changing rooms in leisure centres, gyms & sports clubs
  • Storage areas
  • Business lobbies, corridors & elevators
  • Refuse collection areas & waste storage
  • Customer waiting rooms

The AirCare is designed to operate in enclosed areas which are NOT continually populated with human beings. The air should naturally refresh itself (through the natural opening and closing of doors) four to five times an hour. If the AirCare is being used to help eliminate unwanted odours, in washrooms or refuse areas for example, the units should be positioned high, directly above the odour sources like toilets and rubbish bins.

There are three models in the AirCare Range:

  • AC10 for areas up to 5m2, or 3 odour sources
  • AC20 for areas up to 7m2, or 6 odour sources
  • AC30 for areas up to 16m2, or 6+ odour sources

Larger areas, or areas with more odour sources will require a combination of units for effective sanitation.

The Mini PowerZone II

UV Sanitation Systems - BioZone Mini PowerZone II

The Mini PowerZone II is a portable, powerful, intensive version of the AirCare. It is designed to sanitise specific areas with a highly intensive dose of the five germicidal processes. The unit generates such a high levels of photoplasma, negative ions and ozone, human beings cannot be present in the room while the machine is operating.

The Mini PowerZone II is designed to be an extra layer of protection following regular physical cleaning. The intensive action and wide distribution of the ozone, photoplasma and negative ions ensures complete coverage and adds a layer of confidence to business owners that the area is completely sanitised, even in hard to reach areas which are often missed during regular cleaning.

Applications for the Mini PowerZone II include:

  • Hotel rooms (following regular housekeeping)
  • Meeting & conference rooms (between occupation)
  • Car valeting & hire companies for vehicle restoration
  • Mould & fungus control in storage areas
  • Odour abatement
  • Smoke removal
  • Care homes
  • Rubbish collection & processing
  • Shop sanitation (out of hours)
  • Office cleaning (out of hours)

Operation of the Mini PowerZone II is easy. Simply place the unit in the centre of the area to be sanitised, as high up as possible. Select the desired time on the control panel to start the machine, then leave the room immediately. A typical 5 x 5 x 2.5m (62.5m3) hotel room requires a treatment time of 30 minutes, whereas a standard car would only need 10 minutes. Once the exposure time has elapsed, the unit switches off automatically. The area should then be allowed to ventilate, allowing any remaining ozone and photoplasma to dissipate before occupation.

Please Note – None of these products have specifically been certified to eradicate Covid-19. They have however, been proven effective against other varieties of coronavirus including SARS and MERS. Testing is currently being undertaken and every indication suggest that the UV technology used in these products will also be proven to be effective against Covid-19.

Is Ozone Safe for Humans?

Ozone is a naturally occurring substance which forms in the atmosphere every day. In high concentrations, it can become a irritant for humans.

In the UK, the maximum allowable concentration of ozone is 0.2 PPM (Parts Per Million) for a exposure of 15 minutes.

In London, on a warm summers day, the typical natural concentration of ozone is 0.07 PPM

The BioZone AirCare system is designed to produce 0.05 PPM in a Lab environment vs 0.01/0.02 PPM in a real world environment.

Is the BioZone system certified as safe? YES
